Hafley Heads Off Parica
Scott Hafley Beats Jose Parica to Advance
The last round of the winners' bracket matches finished for the evening at the Music City Open.
Where once were 16, now 8 players remain in the winners' bracket.
Troy Frank was the first to go, dispatched in the first match to finish by Shawn "The Love Sponge" Putnam by the score of 11-2.
Putnam said about his match that he was in great form; he ran a total of 8 racks in their match and never really gave Frank a chance at the table.
Others to fall were Lance Ireland, defeated by Bryce Avila 11-2; Amar Kang, who lost to Gabe Owen 11-3; Bobby Brown, defeated by Shannon Daulton 11-5; and Bobby Pickle, who lost to Rafael Martinez by the score of 11-5.
There were also some upsets in this evening's matches. one of the last matches to wrap up, Jose Parica and Scott Hafley were embroiled in a hill-hill match.
Parica found himself signing his own death warrant when he failed to make a ball on the break, allowing Hafley to run out for the 11-10 win.
Across the way, Cliff Joyner, a great player of all games on the table, and Johnny Archer battled it out.
The game was a tight one at first, but ultimately Joyner began pulling away.
Archer missed a delicate cut on the 2 ball in the side, and Joyner ran the rest of the balls out to tie at 9-all.
After that, he made a 3-9 combo to get on the hill and ran the next rack easily for the win.
And the last to finish, Marcus Chamat of Sweden was engaged in a lengthy battle with Jimmy Reid, a player local to Nashville, and lost by a surprising 11-5.
The winners' bracket matches will resume tomorrow evening at 8:30 PM and will include only 8 players.
Those two matches will be Cliff Joyner versus Bryce Avila and Shannon Daulton versus Scott Hafley.
At 10 PM will be Shawn Putnam versus Jimmy Reid and Rafael Martinez versus Gabe Owen.
The one-loss side still has 32 players.
